Explore Your Universe: Family Show
Weekends throughout May
This exciting, new science show brings alive the latest amazing science being explored by UK scientists and engineers. From discoveries about outer space and our universe, to exploring how light and electricity work, this show might even make your hair stand on end! Come and join us for a highly charged and intriguing 30 minutes. For families and children aged 8 and over, we explore the world of atoms and particle accelerators, explore how light travels, look at some materials with unusual properties and talk about how we observe our universe.
Through exciting demonstrations this science show will demonstrate to families how, from atoms to astrophysics, British scientists and engineers are at the forefront of scientific advancement. This show is recommended for children aged 8 and above.
Science on the Spot
Daily
Science on the Spot or SOTS is a series of short demonstrations and experiments using common household items. We encourage visitors to try these experiments at home!
Each SOTS will last between 15-20 minutes and takes place on the Exhibition Floor.
Little Scientist Days: Electricity
Tuesday 21st and Wednesday 22nd May, 10am - 5pm
This month’s Little Scientist Days will be on the theme of electricity. Bring along the Littlest Scientists to learn all about what electricity is and just how important it really is! Exhibitions on at Satrosphere
Vision for the Future
This March we welcome a new exhibition called “Vision for the Future”, this exhibition showcases cutting edge scientific research, millimetre wave technology, and has a nice focus on the applications of the technology and how it relates to real life. This has been kindly loaned to us from Dr David MacFarlane from the University of St Andrews in collaboration with FifeX. The exhibition is up and running now and is free with the price of admission. Visit www.vision4thefuture.org for more information.
Choosing our Tomorrows
Based on the film resource developed by The Macaulay Land Use Research Institute ‘Choosing our Tomorrows’ this exciting new interactive exhibit proposes and explores three different visions of Scotland in the future. These depend on our reactions to climate change and the consequences of the different choices that we might make. It is aimed at improving public understanding of the issues surrounding future energy supplies, transport and food security.
The key message is that these choices will result in very different outcomes. To illustrate this we use the device of "video diaries" but based on the diaries of members of a farming family in the future Scotland of 2050. The diaries are collectively entitled: "Choosing our Tomorrows".
Planet Energy - Power up at Satrosphere
Waves and wind, oil and gas, even solar and geothermal, Scotland has it all. Power up your summer at Satrosphere and visit our newest exhibition, 'Planet Energy' and learn about the energy that is all around us and how we are using it. With special events and activities happening throughout the summer there is plenty to keep the whole family going!
Changing Times, Changing Attitudes
Changing Times, Changing Attitudes ‘mapping 30 years of social care’ is a celebration of Cornerstone’s 30th Anniversary of providing person centred social care for 30 years in Scotland. This exhibition captures images, information and stories that reflect the lives of people living with disabilities, their families and those working in social care.
